What's different about e-bikes?

"Regular" bikes are powered only by your pedaling effort. E-bikes add the option to use an electric motor. This allows you to have assistance from the electric motor so that pedaling is easy. You can still do all the pedaling work yourself for more exercise, or you can select the percentage of assistance you need. As an example, you could choose to have the motor provide 50% of the pedaling effort. You can even do zero pedaling and let the motor do all the work.

Is special training or licensing required?

If you can ride a regular bike, you can ride an e-bike. Magicycle is a Class 2 e-bike, which means you can ride up to 28 MPH without any special training or licensing in most states. In a few states, e-bikes are considered to be like mopeds and a license is required. At this time, only seven states require licensing, as follows:

North Dakota, Wisconsin, New Mexico,  Missouri, Massachusetts, Alabama, Alaska

Are there age requirements for riding e-bikes?

Just as with licensing, age requirements vary according to the state where you reside. Alabama, Alaska, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Utah, and Virginia require riders to be at least 14 years of age. In some cases, riding may be allowed if an adult is accompanying a rider under age 14.
Twenty-one states require riders to be a little older, age 15 or 16. Please consult your local authorities. Also, check to see if a helmet is required.

What about insurance?

Only three states currently require insurance -- North Dakota, West Virginia, New Mexico. It is unlikely that you will ever need e-bike insurance, but it just makes good sense to cover your e-bike by contacting your insurance agent. He can add your e-bike to your homeowners or renters policy.

Can you get good exercise on an e-bike?

Actually, you can get better exercise on an e-bike. You can customize the amount of pedaling effort so that it is just right for your level of fitness. For anyone limited by arthritis, injuries, or age, e-bikes are the answer to better health and fitness. If you cannot pedal a "regular" bike, you'll be very happy with an e-bike!

How do the Magicycle models compare?

The step-over triangular frame offers traditional styling and an ultra-strong frame. You'll notice we redesigned the "triangle" just enough to make it more comfortable for all riders.  Backed by top quality engineering and the very best in manufacturing techniques, this e-bike is far more than just easy on the pocketbook -- it will last a lifetime.

Your height can also influence your decision. A quite tall rider may prefer the step-over frame, although certainly height does not eliminate choosing a step-through e-bike. If you have no range-of-motion challenges, spend more time off-road than on, and you don't make a lot of stops, this Midnight Blue beauty step-over is a great choice!

No longer considered a "girl's bike," step-thru bikes are rapidly gaining popularity as the epitome of comfort and convenience.

Perhaps more importantly, step-thru styling allows anyone with restricted motion, painful knees, weak hips, etc. to once again enjoy biking. Not having to swing the leg up and over a top bar to mount the e-bike is a great benefit!

Step-thru e-bikes are so easy to mount and dismount, and this is also very appealing to anyone who routinely makes a lot of stops along their journey. If you plan to use your e-bike for commuting and you need to ride dressed for work, then a step-through e-bike may be essential. The step-thru style is also great if you get on and off frequently, such as in delivery work.
